Stroke Rehabilitation

Aphasia: the loss of receptive and/or expressive language skills due to a stroke. Often times persons with aphasia experience difficulty with communication related to daily living skills.

Speech therapy can improve listening, speaking, reading, writing, reasoning, and swallowing impairments. Additionally, we provide options such as, speech generating devices to improve functional communication.

Dypshagia/Swallowing Therapy:

Did you know that 1 in 25 Americans will experience a swallowing problem in the United States? Dysphagia can result from a stroke, head injury, head/neck cancer, various neurological disorders or without a known cause. Some individuals have difficulty with liquids, food and even their own saliva.

Our speech therapists perform comprehensive diagnostic evaluations to determine the cause and severity of the dysphagia and to develop an appropriate plan of treatment. The examination may include:

  • A bedside swallowing examination looking at the oral structures

  • Observations chewing and swallowing various foods and liquids

  • It is recommended the patient has had Fiberoptic Endoscopic Evaluation of Swallowing (FEES) or MBSS completed. (For helpful information please visit www.mobiledv360.com.

Based on the results of the evaluation our therapists will develop a dysphagia therapy program. Several of our therapists have been trained to utilize FDA approved AmpCare Esp which provides a mild electrical current to contract the muscles of the face through the use of small electrodes.
